Marlies Soltys's Soul Art

What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?

I have always had a passion for art, and also hold a background in Counselling. Moving forward, I needed to find a way to combine these avenues and wanted a creative process that is authentic to me, staying within my values, taking pride in who I am, and sharing this part of me with others.

How would you describe your creative process?

I love nature, spending time outdoors, walking amongst the trees, swimming in lakes, taking time to see the present moment. This is what inspires me, these create pictures in my mind and then in turn, I rely on my intuition to select mediums..paint, fabric, glass, canvas or wood. I play and explore them all. The idea I started with will quickly evolve into a whole new experience. And I embrace that process.

What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?

In this particular project, my intitial idea was a face with a mask. As I started my creation and finished the face, I could not put a mask over the eyes. I wanted to reveal the true character and not cover it up with a mask. I found this so vastly interesting, as we often find ourselves wearing masks to please others and in this case I wanted the beauty of the face to shine and not a mask.

What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?

Listen to yourself, to your heart, to your soul, create from within and do not rely on others for their input. Let your soul dance across your canvas, don’t overthink, put on your favourite playlist of music, dance while you create, feel what you want to create and let it free your soul, and let your true colours shine!
