Tania Michelle Magennis's Soul Art

What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?

To be challenged to create from being “in the moment” and thus expressing from my inner core, the mystery where my truth resides! This is the second time I have participated in a Soul Art journey and Laura always promotes her work in such an inspiring, colourful and accessible way that it is sure to delight your creative spirit!

How would you describe your creative process?

Painting is my favourite medium to work with and I love and adore working with colour. This piece has stencil work and some collage as well. In my painting I express different aspects to my journey by creating layers for each step of the way – Intentional Creativity. I use acrylic paints and regard them as old friends.I really love using language, symbol and form in my expression. I enjoy working with story telling through my painting journey….

What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?

I just LUVVVVED that process of intuitively selecting images and then using language to create a foundation for the story of the Artwork. The direction I went in was very different to any preplanned ideas I might have snuck in before I started. My intention was based around issues of weight, body image and self love – “Show me a lighter version of myself”. My story was about a Balinese Princess who got lost in a sacred forest and couldn’t find her way out. The Monkeys came to her aid, found her food and eventually showed her the way out of the forest……but after spending time with the Monkeys, watching and learning from them and being in the beauty of the forest, the Princess realised that she didn’t want to leave, that she had actually found her way home and it was right here…… in the forest. My insights from this are that the lighter version of myself is already within me, right now. I don’t need to seek her outside myself or from past versions. That I need to see the “princess” when I look in the mirror. The monkey has reminded me to be playful and strategic in looking at more healthy eating options and that I already know what I need to do (I am already “home”). And I feel that there is also a message about Mother Nature being able to provide everything I need – to be nourished and eat nutrient rich foods.

What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?

I would recommend this experience to ANYONE who desires to set time aside for some fun, play, creativity and opening a portal to your inner wisdom that resides inside you! It is important to surrender to the process and dismiss your inner critic, so that you can allow yourself REAL freedom to express your own unique truth.
