Sheila Delgado's Soul Art

What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?

This is the fifth year I have participated. I always find the event rejuvenating and reaffirming.

How would you describe your creative process?

This year there was no struggle to begin. I reached for a brush, added water to color, and stained the paper by dripping paint from the top. Layers of mark making, more watercolor, acrylics, pencil and pen. I used a twig, sponge brayer, rubber and wood stamps, dropper, stencil and texture sheet. Sea sponge, watercolor pencils, and assorted brushes. I painted for nearly 8 hours, lost in the play/work. I did not feel the need to “finish”, just the need to “do”.

What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?

Towards the end I began to wonder about this myself. I was a little worried, because nothing was coming to me. Then out of nowhere came this thought, “Bloom where you are planted.” Not original by any means, but loud and clear. And reassuring.

What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?

So far I have always participated, alone in my creative space. But the connection I feel to the other artists is very real. Just one day. The energy, the sharing of ideas, the sharing of work in progress…. the feeling of belonging, and acceptance. Palpable and priceless.
