Sheila Marie Delgado's Soul Art

What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?

I have participated in Soul Art for several years. It is a day full of inspiration, community and free expression. Again this year, I find that Laura’s event was perfectly timed. When my creative energy seemed to be ebbing, the journey guides have brought new energy.

How would you describe your creative process?

For my soul art, I just sat down and lost myself in the moment. While listening to Laura and the other artists speak, I just chose one color and then the next. I had no intention as to outcome. I focused on each stroke, and the movement of the flowing hues. Encouraged by Laura and the others, I gave myself the permission to play. This year I worked on several small pieces.

What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?

I am still thinking about that. I have the pieces on display, and I am going to live with them and ponder for a bit. Looking at each piece, most of them have a sense of light, fun and playfulness. I am often very serious, so perhaps that is the message.

What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?

It was a tremendous release. After a stressful afternoon, sitting down to paint was a welcome distraction. When I finished, I felt relaxed, and surprisingly exhausted at the same time. I am not sure that there is a specific insight from my soul art created this year. But I am sure that taking part was very cathartic for me.
