Jennifer Blumenthal's Soul Art

What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?

I heard about it in a forum that I am in and I knew immediately that I HAD to do it. I knew that it was what I was needing at this very moment.

How would you describe your creative process?

I almost didn’t do the workbook exercises or the magazine part, I just wanted to make art. But I decided I could “just make art” any day and so I wanted to allow myself the fullness of the process provided by Laura. I’m so glad I did! I allowed myself to not think about what I was doing and to just be guided with the wonder of a child. Even in finding images in my magazines, I was inspired and energized!

I taped up some of the magazine images in front of me and put on some journeying music. I have tons of art supplies that I never use and I got out those unused supplies and spread them out. I let my fingers get dirty and my creation to be guided by whatever came up in my heart, step-by-step. I loved the story I was able to write from from the beginning exercise and I used to guide my art.

I finger painted, brush painted, made squiggles, dropped colors on the page. I allowed myself to paint over things I didn’t like and keep going. Toward the end of the process the insights started to come by themselves – WOW!

I have to admit, I’m quite a self-critic (like, who isn’t??) and I didn’t love what I had created, but I was ok with it. This morning as I look at it again, I really do love it and I can feel it inside of me. I just had to give it some time to integrate.

I can’t wait to do this again!

What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?

I got a few insights. First, two insights that seem more obvious: (1) creating is part of what my soul needs to find my own fulfillment so I need to honor that need and make the time and space to create on a regular basis. (2) My clients will benefit from this work and I need to share it. It needs to be incorporated into my work with others. The third insight I got was more of a surprise: I’m an introvert and I like spending time alone. I spend a LOT of time alone… but, maybe my soul doesn’t want to be alone anymore. Maybe part of my need is to be and share with other people. Maybe part of my need is to be seen in a big way. That’s a little scary and exciting at the same time!

What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?

Soulful art is the best way to tap into the richness of our inner worlds. Everyone is an “artist” when they allow themselves to be guided by their soul. I can’t wait to incorporate more of this opening and expanding type of work with my own clients. My own soul feels more peaceful and expanded today from my great experience.
