Phyllis A. Taylor's Soul Art

What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?

I began to feel “uninspired” in my work. I began to experiment with various other mediums…ones I had not used before and with a different way of creating portraits. I was looking for something to bring my passion back.

How would you describe your creative process?

When I see a person’s face I see all the character there is…even in a baby’s face! I love faces, what they have to say. I’ll usually do a sketch but will also photograph the subject especially if it’s children. Then I sit with the image until I know if I want to draw it in pencil, charcoal, color pencils or pastels.

What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?

Having experienced some pain and stiffness in the joints of my dominant drawing hand I chose to bodymap my hands…sending healing energy to them, enabling them to continue their work. And I felt at ease about it. Usually if it is not a face I don’t draw or paint it but in keeping with my experimenting I’ve been allowing myself to explore all of the human body.

What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?

That I actually spent the entire day creating without having my “critical” voice telling me I should be doing something else!!! And all was OK and creatively dynamic for me!
