Suzie Cheel's Soul Art

What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?

Having done this last year for the first time I knew the value of giving myself the gift again. I had declared I would take the journey again. My creative spirit needed a boost and my studio needed a clean up, this was the vehicle to get my creativity moving again and to give me clarity.

How would you describe your creative process?

Intuitive, I paint from my heart. I did feel some left brain( head) activity during the process. Initially I was overcome by the bigness of the image that came from the body mapping. Last year I had used my hands and arms. This year after watching Laura’s intro I was drawn to capture my heart area, my arms and my third eye. I worked mainly with paint after initially planning and being prepared to mainly use collage. The reverse was the case. My painting surface was impromptu- some butchers paper attached to a flattened cardboard carton.cardboard carton.

What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?

This was huge for me, although when I shared that I discovered from doing the Soul Art exercise that I had some work to do on playing a bigger game. a friend said : Well you already knew that!” The bigness of the imagery reflected back to me that it os time to step up it is time to share my art, my inspiration, my message to a much wider audience. It was time to create the ripples of change that make a difference in the world.

What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?

There have been 3 takes of my soul artwork. the first i completed on the day. The next day i looked at it and got the message that there was more to add to complete it. I then added some collage and left if to dry. For the next week I kept looking at it and knew there was something else that was to emerge. There was also some procrastination at play. Yesterday after doing some work on my mission and my vision I walked back into my studio and added to the work thinking it was then complete. When I took the photograph of the work I saw a darkness that did not sit well with me. I slept on it and first thing this morning after meditating I started painting with joy, I added layers that brought feelings of joy and freedom and I now felt that it was complete and while I had embraced the bigness I had found a softness that was lacking in the early stages. This has been very valuable as it is time for me to step up and play a bigger game in my life, my art and my business.
