Laurie Zak's Soul Art

What Inspired you to do a Soul Art journey?

I enjoy pursuing ways to both understand/know myself better and to integrate my true inner spirit with my creative expression, so I was intrigued by the process and possibility of Soul Art to assist me in doing that.

How would you describe your creative process?

It all unfolded very quickly and with much less “effort” or “concious” thought than I had anticipated. I do a lot of art and personal exploration using magazine images and collage as well as use writing/journaling as an emotional and creative outlet, so the actual process of Soul Art was very familiar and comfortable for me to immerse myself in.

What insight did you receive from your Soul Art?

The somewhat surprising intention which revealed itself was to gain and understanding on how to pursue making more “real” friendships with other like-minded women, due to the fact that I often feel the “need” to “worry” about my preference for solitude and limited social contact, and occasionally bemoan the fact that I “have no girlfriends”. But the insight I received from my Soul Art process and creation was that there are real and valid reasons why I am most comfortable and content in relative solitude (with my own company and myself as a trusted companion and friend), and that I need to accept and honor my tendency to be satisfied with the very few solid, positive, healthy, nurturing connections & friendships that I DO have and cultivate. And also that there are still many ways that I can extend my desire to touch and reach and connect with others which remain in the range of my personal comfort level as well as encourage me to use my creative spirit and capacity for love to “think outside the box” to redefine what “friendship”, “connection” and “companionship” really is and means to me.

What is the most important thing you would like to share about your Soul Art experience?

That the answers to all of our pain, wonder, questions, worry, confusion, and concerns are all inside of you and me (and everyone) if we can only open ourselves up-heart, mind, body and soul-to pursue, believe, hear, acknowledge, listen, allow and explore them. That opening comes in many forms, and excavation involving artistic expression is one of the best and most amazing ways to do that. Trust yourself, believe in yourself, accept and love yourself RIGHT NOW EXACTLY HOW YOU ARE, and you will find joy, peace and purpose.
