“In the space between art and persona there is magic. Marya Stark lives there. Drawing from influences as diverse as Classical, Broadway, Indie-Pop, Storytelling and Folk, Marya crafts a sound that is wholly original. As a multi-instrumentalist and multi-media enchantress, she creates the way she breathes; without choice or hesitation. She is a carrier of myth, mystery, and medicine songs with which she embarks to create a ceremony of the human experience, taking her audience on lucid journey’s through the caverns of the soul. An award winning songwriter and vocal maverick, she is a mentor in the art of voice and archetypal embodiment. About Marya’s Soul Art

When I create songs from visions, they take time to incubate- coming through as an image first which I spend months or years unpacking within my heart, imagination, womb, body, and emotional understanding. This process takes the shape in a series of songs, each with its unique key in understand whatever archetypal energy I’m sitting inside of and listening to. After many cycles and seasons within one particular archetype, these songs usually coalesce into a cycle or album that I record. The image I originally imagined becomes the ceremonial ritual art piece to weave it all together, and usually ends up as the cover image. I love working within the realm of visual storytelling and songwriting, creating worlds within worlds, spheres of imagination and sonic images that represent the power of my relationship between sound and light. This relationship strengthens within me as it translates information between realms of manifest and un-manifest worlds. This is how I work with art as soul craft, bringing images from the dream realms into form through the muse of the voice, embodying archetypal energies which help me see the soul from many sides and know myself more completely.

What does Soul Art mean to Marya?

Soul Art to me is the process of soul embodiment through creativity and craft. The journey of fully incarnating through receiving inspiration and following it through to completion, moving through the layers resistance, encountering stages of human development, cultivating an active relationship to co-creative process with life, and ultimately a way to experience the soul and the self from new perspectives. This is my favorite form of evolutionary development and a fun form of tasting the nuances of human experience.
